On Good Friday, Gordon highlighted some key moments surrounding Jesus’ crucifixion and death from Luke 23:44-53.
Darkness came over the whole land, and the curtain in the temple was torn in two. These may bring to some people’s mind the shadows that cover their own world, or the brokenness that we see in our society today.
Another significant moment in Luke’s story is when a man called Joseph of Arimathea, a secret disciple of Jesus who was waiting for the Kingdom of God, took Jesus’ body and placed it in a tomb which no other person had been laid. He gave up what was his for the sake of Jesus.
Gordon reminded us that these events on that first Good Friday led to what is sometimes known as ‘The Great Exchange’ where Christ took our place and gave himself for us. It was at this darkest moment in human history that Jesus said his work was finished – job done!
It was Friday but Sunday was coming.
